News from the Coal Face

Work in Progress

The following is taking place on Tuesday

The entrance hall has been refurbished

  • Up lighting has been installed
  • A new literature and leaflet rack is in place
  • Visitors may ‘clock in’ at the Gledhill Brook time clock
  • An illuminated cabinet displays our items for sale
  • A cash register is now installed on the reception desk
  • Four ‘Kempton’ DVDs have been reprinted and are on sale

The restoration of the Mercury Arc Rectifier

  • Panel wiring is nearing completion
  • The transformer termination cabinet has been installed
  • The soft start switchbox has been built
  • Both rectifier bulbs have been tested on their auxiliary electrodes
  • Polycarbonate protection screens have been fitted to the cabinet

Improved lighting is planned for the water valve chambers and LP cylinder on No7

Supplementary lighting has been installed in the No6 ram area

Currently the following is taking place on Thursdays.

  • Repair of one of the air pumps
  • Repair of numerous small oil leaks
  • Refurbishment of electrical control boxes
  • Repair of leaking water pipes
  • Minor repairs (as noted during past steamings) continue.

Currently the following is taking place on Sundays.

  • Refurbishment of the No. 7 barring engine.
  • Painting continues.
  • Minor repairs (as noted during past steamings) continue..

Museum News

  • Telephone answering facility has been upgraded to provide better service for enquirers.
  • Additional exhibits have been introduced.
  • Audio-visual equipment is being installed.
